WHAT TO DO - do it once- the next time it will take only 10 seconds. 1. CLICK HERE OR ON PICTURE ABOVE : to activate picture. 2. Tick "distance measure tool" (left hand side of picture- all functions). 3. Tick "metric" for km or "English" for miles. 4. Click on place of starting point- wait about two seconds till you see a green marker. 5. Click on place of destination- wait about two seconds till you see a red marker - a red straight line will appear between the two points. 6 The distance between the two points will appear on the lower left hand side. 7. Tip: press F11 for full screen view- and F11 again to go back to normal view. 8. Click on "reset" to start new job. 9. Tip: you can determine the cumulative distances between more than two places-eg. click in three or more places. 10. Zoom picture in(+) for much more detail- eg. more names of towns. 11. To move picture in any direction: click on mouse- hold and drag. 12. You can get distances of every country in the world. Put in name of country and "search maps". Click on "my maps"- the rest is then the same as above. Acknowledgement to Google maps. 10. NEW : PATH PROFILER - ELEVATION PROFILE MAP BETWEEN TWO PLACES. * With the Path Profiler mapplet you can draw an arbitrary path and see the elevation profile along that path. Different elevations have major influences on the weather like wind, temperature, fog and many more. * This path profiler will help you to get an indication of the elevations like mountains you have to fly over. Profile between Bloemfontein(O km)- departure- and Cape Town-South of Table mountain(800+). WHAT TO DO - do it once- the next time it will take only 10 seconds. 1. CLICK HERE OR ON PICTURE ABOVE : to activate map programme. 2. Zoom map in- about 6 lines from the bottom. 3. Drag map to centre South Africa on map. 4. Activate the follwing options: "flat earth", "metric", "show grade"(right hand side). 5. Click on map on starting point- an X will appear. 6. Click on map on finish point- your loft- another X will appear. A red line will now indicate the route. 7. See information on right hand side of map. 8. Click on "draw profile"- profile will be shown in box above map- your loft will be on the far right hand side. 9. To close: click on"clear". 10. More detail on your profile map. Put in more X's in your map( starting from the point of departure) you will be able to determine positions on the map much more accurate. Just compare the colours on the map with those on the profile map. Zoom in for much more detail. Example of X positions on the Google map(Bloemfontein to Cape Town)
