currently selected image
- Stop - stops the animation from playing
- Play > - plays the animation forward in time to the
currently selected image (if there aren't enough frames
available before the selected image then the animation
starts from the earliest available image)
- Frames in Animation - specifies that the animation will
be made up of the 6, 9 or 12 image frames (NOTE: for some
formats fewer frames may be played if there are fewer frames
available on the server!)
- Ping-pong - plays the animation backwards and forwards
repeatedly (note that the button acts as a toggle, i.e.
pressing it the first time starts ping-pong mode, whereas
pressing it a second time will cause the animation to play
in the direction that the animation is moving at that time)
- Slower - slows down the animation **
- Faster - speeds up the animation **
- Reset - resets the animation back to the default mode
(i.e. 6 frames in animation, ping-pong mode off, animation
stopped, etc.)
- Print Image - loads the currently displayed image into
a separate window so that it can be printed
- Refresh - loads the latest available imagery
- Sector - allows selection of different
sectors of the full disc image, or the full disc image
itself (i.e. where the sectors number refers to a 3 by
3 square as follows: 1 2 3 (top row of full disc image,
1=left/Northwest, 2=middle/North, 3=right/Northeast)
- 4 5 6 (middle row of full disc image, 4=left/West, 5=middle/center,
6=left/East)
- 7 8 9 (i.e. bottom row of full disc image, 7=left/Southwest,
8=middle/South, 9=right/Southeast)
- ** some options are not available depending on which
service is selected

8. HOW TO PUT "THE PEOPLES' WEATHER WEBPAGE" ON YOUR COMPUTER'S DESKTOP
8.1. WHAT IS A DESKTOP
The desktop is the main screen where you can put icons that act as shortcuts to various programs. Typical you will get here: "my computer", "my documents", internet explorer", etc.
Now you will put this webpage there as well- to access it immediately.
8.2. WHY ON MY DESKTOP
When you click on the link or icon of "The peoples' weather webpage" you will immediately have your webpage in front of you. The main reason for this step is to make it very easy for you to get your information immediately. Of course it is not a must.
8.3. HOW TO DO IT- ONLY ONCE!
1. Click on the "peoples' weather webpage" (green block) at the top of home page 1 of the main website- this will open the page.
2. Go to "File"- (top left of your screen) - then to "send"- then click on "shortcut to desktop"- it is there!
You will see the icon of this website-
3. For your next visit and all in future all you have to do is to click on this link/icon- you will be immediate on the webpage.
4. You can even rename this link- right click on link
9. INTERPRETATION OF 2.A: CLOUDS AND RAIN(RADAR) UPDATED HOURLY(24 HRS):
SOUTHERN AFRICA, USA, EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA
1. GENERAL
The new symbols that you are seeing are due to use upgrading our displays of South Africa.
You now see Temperature (C) as cyan numbers for reported locations throughout SA. The WHITE letters that appear below the Temperature are the reported Weather event (like rain, haze, fog, etc). Here is a list of some of the more frequent abbrevations.
R = rain R- = light rain R+ = heavy rain
RW = rain shower D = drizzel W = shower
T = thunder TR = ThunderStorm TRW=ThunderShower TRW+ = heavy ThunderShower
S = snow IP = Ice pellets ZR= freezing rain
F = fog H = haze K = smoke U = Unknown
There is a complete list at this site
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/glossary/
The blocks indicate the location of surface reporting stations. The color of the block indicates the Flight Rules (VFR, MVFR, IFR and LIFR) reported at the location (GREEN = VFR, CYAN=MVFR, RED=IFR, MAGENTA=LIFR). These locations are "clickable". By tapping/clicking on these locations, you will get the last 24hrs of METAR reports.
For example: on this map -> http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/data/paw/afsa_fajs_clds_anim_none.html you see a block over Johannesburg . Move your cursor/pointer to that location and click on it. You will see the following:
http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/data/paw/sfcobsfajs.html
This is the weather observations for Johannesburg over the past 24 hours. The output is formatted for display on a smartphone. All points on the displays that have these blocks are clickable.
If you tap/click on the PLOT button at the top of the image display, it displays a menu that allows you to plot locations of Wild Fires. The IMAGE button allows you to switch between Satellite RainRate, Clouds and a new type of display that we are creating, Forecast Precipitation.
2. STREAMS- JET STREAMS
Stream/jet stream: a high-speed high-altitude airstream blowing near the top of the troposphere; has important effects of the formation of weather .

10. YOWINDOW.
YOWINDOW
BRAND NEW VISUAL INTERACTIVE WEATHER PRESENTATION
See the weather- like through a window- facing north- without ever looking at numbers.
* If you'd like more out of your weather reports than a simple sunshine icon and the high and low for the day, YoWindow gives you a real time and animated peek into today's weather and forecast.
* A landscape reflects the actual weather and the sunlight at your place. YoWindow gives you real time and projected weather as an animated sequence complete with sunrise and moonrise, clouds, and precipitation
* It takes the concept of "looking out the window" and stretches it a bit. A pastoral animated landscape reflects the current weather in your location, or in any other location that you select.
* There's a slider on top of the image that you can drag to see the forecast (as well as past weather). The slider shows sunset and sunrise times, and when you drag it over those times, you get a neat animation, and the landscape changes accordingly. You can also click on day icons right below the slider and extend the forecast up to four days into the future. When you select a different location(if activated), the application doubles as a world clock, and you can see the exact remote time and weather conditions.
* The handiest button is on the lower-right corner; that's the full-screen button. If you try the tool, be sure to click it. The experience is completely different in full-screen mode; it's really nice to look at. It's only full-screen as long as you don't click anywhere.
* To exit full screen mode, press "esc" on key board.
* Click on "live"- the weather NOW will be in the big block right top(with name of city). Forecasted weather in small blocks left top.
* Use slider( green when live- otherwise white) on top and drag to see the time and days forward and back- play with it- it is really fun!
* Weather now- from nearest weather station at an airport. YoWindow picks the closest METAR(usually at an airport) station to the location you choose. Then the current weather is loaded from this station Forecasted weather- from the forecast is delivered by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
* Direction from "window"= north.
* Occasionally, you may notice interesting objects in the skies like a plane or a shooting star. Watch the smoke from the house and the wind data.
* The location of the sun, moon, moon phase, sunrise and sunset times correspond to the actual values for the place you choose.
* You can use YoWindow as a reliable world-clock. Whatever location you choose, the local time displayed by YoWindow is correct.
* Occasionally, you may notice interesting objects in the skies like a plane or a shooting star.
This is an experiment- if you like it or don't, please let me know.
YOU MUST ENJOY THIS IN FULL SCREEN MODE- MUCH MORE DEFINITION- CLICK ON ARROWS IN RIGHT HAND BOTTOM CORNER.

11. INTERPRETATION OF RAIN PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE
There are various rain images on this website- each with a dedicated colour template to interpret the colours. Make sure that you study this. Why three pictures and not one only? Simply because all of them have different functions.
* "Probability of rain" picture- no.10.1 homepage two.
This is a general type of picture with a rain forecast element. Updated every 3 hours. The red, but more so the pink colours indicate a high probability of rain. It might rain at the others colours but this is very rare. It might also not rain at pink!
* "Hourly rain" picture- no. 10.2 homepage two.Updated every 30 minutes. The purple colours will hardly indicate rain. Green and up- a good chance for rain.
* "Severe weather rain" picture- new- no. 12 homepage two.
Brilliant and very accurate. Thoroughly tested over time.
Updated every three hours. The brown/red colour indicate rain at almost 100% times- correspond almost 100% with radar.
Never miss on this one!
* General- applicable on all rain pictures: When the clouds are low eg. a cold front, it might be that the colours do not show at all- indicating no rain- this might be wrong.
The rain models indicate good rains when the top height of the clouds are around 12 km- the temperature will then be approximate -60C. When the clouds are low, the temperatures of the clouds are too low to indicate rain on the rain models. However this is very rare.
Drizzle: might also not indicated on the maps- not even on photos with clouds.
